Heifer Vietnam project sites across the Mekong Delta region celebrated International Children's Day with games, cookies and educational activities. This annual event creates a healthy environment outside of school, nourishes their childhood and inspires their parents, who are Heifer project beneficiaries.

In the Phu Tan community, children under 15 years old didn't get fancy toys or luxurious Barbie dolls, but instead received candy, cookies and notebooks.

Huyen Tran, 5, one of the 130 children of Heifer participant families, said, "I enjoyed playing football. I will be a student of grade one, so these notebooks are useful for me. I will study well to make my parents happy and proud of me." This was her second Children's Day celebration.

In the Ben Tre province, children who earned good academic records were given notebooks and a certificate of appreciation. The gifts are a great source of encouragement for not only the children, but their parents as well, to work harder to be able to afford to keep their children in school.

Children are a source of pride, contentment and motivation for their parents. This was evident as the parents watched and smiled when their children played, laughed and sang during the celebration. Although the event came to an end, parents and children alike remained happy and inspired because Heifer truly cares.

Other Ben Tre province celebrations were held in the villages of My An and My Hung. In Long An province Residents of Binh Thanh and My Thanh villages in Long An province, Vi Binh village in Hua Giang province, and Phu Tan and Tan Hung villages in Soc Trang province celebrated International Children's Day, as well.
