On August 3, 2013, Heifer China and Wharf China organized Heifer Love Farm, a local farmers market, to sell organic products in the community of Chengdu Hi-tech Zone district. More than 20 farmers from five cooperatives displayed their products from Heifer Earthquake Rehabilitation projects in Anxian, Jiangyou and Lizhou.

Heifer China project participants are rapidly increasing their income through livestock and crop production. The event helped cooperatives develop marketing strategies for their agricultural products in local communities.

It showcased alpine green peppers from the Lizhou district of Guangyuan. The spicy-scented, but sweet, pepper was popular among customers. More than 11 pounds of the thick-textured pepper was sold.

Liuyuexue Cooperative from Anxian County displayed their organic grapes. Customers couldn't resist a sample taste, which quickly led to a purchase. The large, seedless and juicy grapes were organically grown using fertilizer from chicken, pig and rabbit manure.

Other products included Lizhou alpine plum, Anxian green rice and redskin peanuts, and Jiangyou pollution-free pears. And Xiaojun Cooperative from Jiangyou County exhibited deer antler products.

More urban residents in China are seeking organic, environmentally friendly products. Now, they can purchase fresh products directly from Heifer farmers.

Give farmers the gift of self-reliance.
