On April 4, 2013, Heifer Malawi staff attended the Presidential Initiative Launch of Two Crops per Year and One Cow per Family projects to eradicate hunger and poverty. The projects aim to strengthen irrigation farming and mobilize farmers in dairy production.

Heifer Malawi Country Director Petronella Halwiindi said, "It was an excellent opportunity for us to showcase our work in the exhibition of the Dairy Value Chain Project that included all the major players of the value chain, from input and service providers, production to processing, and consumption. We had an opportunity to share Heifer's work and role in the project with the two presidents (Joyce Banda from Malawi and Armando Guebuza from Mozambique) and their delegations during the tour of the displays by the various stakeholders involved in the two projects."

The joint event was headed by Flora Kaluwile, the national coordinator for the Presidential Initiative for Poverty and Hunger Reduction, and was organized by the Public Events Committee of the Malawi government. Also participating was the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, the Ministry of Water Development and the Green Belt Initiative.

Event speakers included Malawi State President Joyce Banda, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security and Mozambique State President Armando Guebuza. Also in attendance was Malawi Vice President Kumbo Kachali, Chief Secretary Hawa Ndilowe, cabinet ministers and members of the diplomatic corps. Heifer Zambia Country Director James Kasongo was on hand to represent Elizabeth Bintliff, Heifer International's vice president for Africa programs, who was unable to attend in person.
