The opening ceremony for the Campesino Families Increasing Rural Productivity While Preserving the Natural Forests of Alta Verapaz (PRONATURA) project was held on September 26, 2012, at the Health Center in San Miguel Tucurú in Guatemala.

Participants included agricultural commissions, municipal development councils (COCODES) and economic development commissions from 30 communities, along with representatives from the municipalities, local NGOS, the Education Ministry (MINEDUC), the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA), the Health Center and students from the Tucurú Institute.

The purpose of the event was to promote PRONATURA for San Miguel Tucurú's community development, a partnership between the Holistic Rural Development Association and Heifer International.

Carlos Hernández, Heifer project coordinator in the area, mentioned that the event “was well organized; the essential elements of the project were communicated, the technical team that was hired is committed to the activities and they give even more, as you can see. The interesting thing is that we have a technical team eager to work and them being a part of the ADRI team has been important to make progress in promoting the project.”

During the implementation of the project, Heifer Guatemala will continue to contribute actively and sustainably to Guatemala’s development and will ensure that concrete, meaningful progress is achieved.
