Community members in Hughes, Arkansas, gathered for a farmer's market Saturday, November 17, 2012. The people of Hughes live in a food desert, meaning there isn't a grocery store nearby. Many farmers were working with Heifer's Seeds of Change project, which works in the Delta and Appalachia regions to bring healthy, sustainable food to communities and connect smallholder farmers with local markets. Meredith Rolf, project manager for strategic initiatives, shares how Heifer farmers are changing their lives for the better.
