Give the gift of a pig

John Kpesese’s family received a pig from Heifer. The gift of a pig has changed their lives forever.

For $120, you can make a difference to another family just like the Kpeseses.

  • Most pigs live 10-15 years and can thrive on crop and garden byproduct scraps while the average sow can provide 16 or more piglets a year, making it a viable and long term path to sustainability for Heifer recipient families.
  • Piglets can be sold for anywhere between $50 and $250 USD in most countries, which provides many farmers the ability to purchase clothing, schooling, and other important necessities.
  • Many families in the US still follow the holiday tradition of the peppermint pig. Families break the candy after dinner (inside a small cloth pouch) using a miniature hammer. Everyone shares in eating the pieces, hoping for good fortune in the coming year.
  • Since pretty much the dawn of time, pigs have been a symbol of health, wealth, good luck, and wisdom in a myriad of cultures.
