Heifer Volunteer Spotlight

When Heifer Village opened in June, 2009 Jill Bloom was there and has been ever since. In that time she has racked up over 650 hours, volunteering twice a week in the Shop@Heifer, leading Green Building and Exhibit tours, and facilitating education programs for groups.

Her volunteer work with Heifer began when she found herself with extra time on her hands and a desire to give back for all the blessings she has received in her life.

“I was amazed how Heifer International kept coming across my radar from multiple sources. It didn’t take long to realize that God was pointing me in that direction. It just so happened to correspond with the building and opening of Heifer Village, “ said Jill.

Belief in Heifer’s mission and the power that knowledge can play in eliminating hunger and poverty is a key reason she loves her work at Heifer so much. “My favorite volunteering is the school age educational programs creating the awareness of hunger and poverty, identifying the challenges and success needed to end it. Education at a young age will establish a lifetime awareness of these issues and spur on the personal commitment to ending hunger and poverty while taking care of the earth," Bloom said.

Jill’s many hours of service and dedication to Heifer make the Village’s programs possible.

“There are people who make you feel good just by walking up to them and Jill is one of those people,”
said Jim Rollings, Director of Heifer Village.
