Middle School Lesson Plans

Our flexible GET IT! curriculum for middle school teachers, GET IT!, includes a standards-based academic unit that can be integrated—in whole or in part—into lesson plans. The program engages middle school students as investigative journalists to research, write about and act on issues surrounding consumer choices and international trade.

GET IT! is an optimal curriculum for team teaching, with the units categorized by instructor discipline, though one teacher can also cover all the material. The lesson plans and activities emphasize reading comprehension, audience-based writing, high-level thinking and research strategies. The units feature the international trade of flowers, coffee and bananas, common products that people in the United States buy from Latin America.

The lesson plans go hand in hand with Chores for Change, a service-learning program that teaches students about hunger and what they can do to make a difference in their own communities, as well as around the world.
