Learning Center Volunteering

Heifer International’s Learning Centers deliver educational programs showcasing Heifer’s model for global sustainable development. Learning Center Volunteers are an integral part of presenting Heifer’s mission to the public and exploring issues of world hunger and poverty while challenging learning center visitors to become more responsible global citizens.

Heifer Learning Center Volunteers:
• Lead Educational Programming
• Care for Livestock*
• Tend the Gardens*
• Provide Administrative Support
• Assist with Special Events
• Maintain Facilities*
• Greet Visitors at the Front Desk
• Work in the Gift Shop
*Not available at Heifer Village.

You can become a part-time or a residential full-time volunteer. Residential volunteers live on-site (and/or move temporarily to the area) and dedicate months, even an entire year, to full-time volunteering.  Part-time volunteers live off-site and pass on their gifts by assisting with day to day operations or special events. The time commitment varies, but all part-time volunteers must commit to a minimum of 4 hours a week for at least 6 months. 
 

General Volunteer Requirements

• Be at least 18 years of age by starting date of volunteer service
• Complete an application and pass a background check
• Complete the orientation and training sessions
• Be fluent in the English language and possess strong verbal communication skills
• Meet additional position-based requirements as applicable

Note: All transportation expenses are the responsibility of the volunteer. For international volunteers: if required, all visa expenses are the responsibility of the applicant and accepted applicants must have obtained their visa at least six weeks prior to confirmed start date.
