2008 Earth Dinner Fundraiser for Heifer International

The 2008 Earth Dinner at the Fowler Museum on the campus at UCLA (Wed., April 16) was a great success. The food by celebrity chef T. Nicolas Peter of the Little Door Restaurant was fantastic, and Jane Kaczmarek was lovely and very funny in her remarks introducing the event, mentioning that she had asked producers of her hit sitcom "Malcolm in the Middle" not to buy her gifts for the holidays but to give her water buffalo from Heifer instead. Which they did for the seven-year run of the series. Next she and Evan Kleiman, host of "Good Food," modeled how to use the questions on Organic Valley's cards to start a discussion of food memories. Then they turned it over to each table to have their own conversations. Organic Valley's Teresa Marquez, who created the Earth Dinner idea, spoke. Heifer's regional director Pamela Stone's staff and volunteers put in a lot of hard work to make the event really special, with lovely flower arrangements and table settings. Wine for the evening was donated by Casa Barranca in Ojai Valley, CA.
