This time of year when so many of us are talking about trees — which one to buy, how does it smell, what happens if my dog eats the branches — we should all take a minute to say “thank you” to the life of a tree and the environmental protection they provide.

Trees are essential to life on Earth. While I won’t “gift” trees in the name of my friends and family, I’ll certainly plant more in my yard and landscape in an effort to do my part. I’ll also spread the word to friends and family about their benefit, not to mention that trees can also provide a valuable food resource with little to no effort.
I’ll also be propagating my tropical bamboo and planting it elsewhere, as bamboo is the most useful plant on the planet and even sequesters 4 times the carbon from the atmosphere per acres planted than trees would.
