Heifer International Philippines Assessing Projects Hit by Haiyan

LITTLE ROCK, AR

An assessment team from Heifer Philippines made contact with Heifer farmers in Ormoc, Calubian and Leyte reporting no loss of life from project families but significant or complete damage to homes and crops, and loss of livestock. Many families are crediting Heifer's Community Managed Disaster Risk Reduction (CMDRR) trainings with saving their lives during super typhoon Haiyan.

Heifer International Philippines Projects Hit by Typhoon

LITTLE ROCK, AR

Typhoon Haiyan, known in the Philippines as Yolanda, made landfall last week, bringing wind speeds higher than 230 mph and a storm surge of more than 10 feet. The death toll, currently confirmed at more than 1,000 is expected to rise.

Super Typhoon Haiyan Threatening Heifer International Farmers in the Philippines

LITTLE ROCK, AR

Super Typhoon Haiyan, or Super Typhoon Yolanda as it is referred to in the Philippines, was nearing landfall on the Philippines Thursday evening, packing winds up to 195 mph and threatening many in the central and eastern regions including Heifer International project participants in Visayas and Mindanao. The storm, one of the strongest ever seen, was causing evacuations of thousands in coastal, low-lying and mountainous areas alike.
