Jay A. Wittmeyer
Jay Wittmeyer is a covenant agency director representing the Church of the Brethren.
Currently, Wittmeyer lives in Elgin, IL, and serves as executive director of Global Mission and Service of the Church of the Brethren. In his current assignment, Wittmeyer travels extensively to strengthen Brethren partnerships, support staff and guide programs. The denomination has involvement in challenging areas including North Korea, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, northeastern Nigeria, southern Sudan and Haiti.
The Brethren Service Center, owned and operated by the Church of the Brethren General Board, houses nonprofit organizations that work in areas of relief and development, disaster response, social justice, peace education and hospitality.
Wittmeyer's past experience include work in community development and agriculture extension and education. His portfolio includes Brethren Volunteer Service, Global Food Crisis Fund, International Missions, and Brethren Disaster Ministries. Before assuming his current position in Jan. 2009, Wittmeyer was employed as the director of pensions for the Church of the Brethren Benefit Trust. He also served two years as the assistant director of Lombard Mennonite Peace Center where he served as a large-group mediator.
He holds a Master of Arts Degree in Conflict Transformation from Eastern Mennonite University with a focus on organizational development, a Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages and a Bachelor of Arts in the Teaching of English from the University of Illinois.
